Send your extensive thoughts on Man Utd, Donny van de Beek, clickbait and more to [email protected]

New look Man Utd

So now we have AWB in midfield AND center back. Brandon Williams deputizing as both a left handed midfielder AND a right back. DVB Paul and Bruno starting every game and Fred going to Turkey.

2 questions: have you guys suggesting this just started watching United and want to shake sh*t up a bittle or have been watching for so long you “see” what no one else does?

AWB makes tackles. I’m sorry not sorry that he makes recovery runs. Cry about it opposing fans. Him getting assists is a cherry on top, thats why we’re spending yacht money on improving our midfield/attack. But making Sterling cry is worth every dewy drop of froth that comes out of hater’s lips.

Brandon Williams is what, 12? Let the man develop, he was so exciting before getting tired that positional opinions on him are invalid, i’m sure he can do the job elsewhere but until he is needed elsewhere he is our fullback.

Fred is our most improved player this year. F**k it let’s sell him. Never mind the fact the Turkish club “probably” wont spend more than 50 million on him so there’s like 1 financial sense in that but also that he’s finally being played in a position that suits him, a pivot #6, not a box to box 8 thats expected to get goals. Matic’s 3 yr deal is to ensure we either get some money for him or that he goes into coaching with us after hanging up the toe stompers. So until we get a Kondogbia I really hope Fred isn’t going anywhere.

Lastly, any one ever heard of depth? Anyone of you ever watch Pereira try to run up the pitch? The f**king ball gets stuck between his feet and he constantly has to run back to get it. Is Mr. Beek going to be a 100% hit like Tahith Chong? I don’t know, hopefully he’ll be 300% of Tahith Chong. But either way now we’re 2 injuries away from being f**ked instead of 1, so well done Ole.

What Van de Beek might be thinking…

Having been away from the mailbox for the past couple of weeks, I see that the volume of Man United chatter is still ramped up to 11. I also chanced upon an interesting mail from Duck wondering why Van De Beek would want to go too United. And it strikes me as true of almost every club, especially those in transition – such as Chelsea, United, and Arsenal – that there are 2 views in circulation. Those of the believers who trust that the manager is moving in the right directions and have grounds for optimism. And those of the cynics, who will always find reasons to question and doubt. This is also true for City and Liverpool, in slightly different ways.

So the cynical view of United is a club that has flattered to deceive, that had an inflated points total due to having more than its fair share of penalties. A club doomed to reflect on the glory days while getting used to the 4th place trophy and semifinal appearances, and overpaying for average players. The more optimistic view is that this is a club with the youngest squad in the premier league which can expect to organically get better over the next 3-5 years even with marginal new signings. With a front 3 that has had a stellar year with an average age of 21. Where the manager knows what he wants, at a club that has had an exceptional second half of the season, with specific issues being identified and fixed. A club which can spend within its means, and still outspend most other clubs.

So you see, a player such as Van De Beeck might simply have bought into the more positive view of the club. That’s his prerogative, surely. Duck feels he should wait for a year and go to Barcelona (a club which has systematically devalued every player its bought in the past few years, and is likely to get worse before it gets better, with or without the Messi millstone), or Madrid (who were schooled by Man City and will win the La Liga because everybody else is currently worse, and who will need to replace much of their first team shortly). Would you rather join a club which is on the up? At the top? Or on the way down? Who can tell what goes on in the minds of football fans, eh?

Just a quick note to the writers and mailers questiong DVB joining Manchester United …….. last time I checked we’re still one of the biggest clubs in the world and the large majority of players would love to play at Old Trafford in red

Strength in depth?

Am I the only LFC supporter slightly worried about a second summer of no big transfers?

Yes, Klopp knows what he’s doing, that much was proved last season, but is it sustainable again?  Backup to the front three would be a massive bonus, Werner would have perfect, and I’m (a little bit) worried about Chelsea next season.

I’m sure, as said, Klopp knows what he’s doing better than me, but a significant signing would be a boost all round.  The team is fantastic, but tired legs, ageing and a possible serious injury that we avoided last year need to be considered, not just at the front but defensively as well.

Clickbait guide…

Here’s a clickbait guide for those that struggle…

If there is not a player mentioned in the heading then it is 100% clickbait. An example would be “Man Utd to ditch 3 stars”. On reading, those stars would be Rojo, Pereira and Jlingz.

If more than 1 big club is mentioned, such as  “Utd, City, PSG and Liverpool fight it out for XXXX”, then clearly no-one knows anything other than these clubs might be able to afford said player. 100% clickbait.

If any even mildly sensationalist words are used in the heading like, exclusive, breaking, superstar, star, sensational then it is 100% clickbait.

If words such as target, top target or highly rated, release clause are used then it is 100% clickbait.

However, if the title has the name of a club, a player, a fee and either medical, completed or signed then it is 75% likely not to be clickbait.

There are a few other rules that mailboxers may be able to help with but if you’d like a simpler rule set and don’t suffer acure FOMO then this next one is for you.

If the heading is related to Man Utd, any of their players or staff, past or present, then it is 99% clickbait. Just leave it until people start talking about it in the mailbox. When there are a couple of smug utd fans and some extra haters then a deal has probably been done.

Jon, Cape Town (I can’t understand why some people are so stupid to think good players should only go to a club that guarantees silverware – but they only point this out when good players go to utd even though they still have won more than 90% of clubs, even post Fergie – Good players will come to the premiership for more money and to be seen – there’s too many good players for a handful to stockpile them all. Or should Wolves, Everton, Spurs, Newcastle and the rest of the trophy-less not be allowed to sign good players?)

Woke, bloke…joke

I am a football fan.  Therefore I am drawn to your site; it Is full of football goodies, every day of the year – genius branding.     Just occasionally though, you throw a turd into the mix.   I have not researched it closely, but it appears that these turds quite frequently slip out under the byline “John Nicholson”.

I do not know John; cannot recall him as a former player, manager or esteemed commentator; so I looked him up. Apparently he is a “football writer”.   Hopefully someone higher up could perhaps allow him an early return to his chosen field ?   Oh yes, and maybe a little light-editing might be thrown in to help overcome the impression that Terry Christian or Dianne Abbott have taken possession of his typewriter ?

Goal to banger ratio…

I like Sohaib’s email from this morning.

I would add Gus Poyet to the list.

Had a knack of a) getting very important goals and b) scoring crackers all the time.

I’m not sure if he was that great at anything else tbh but damn he could crack a ball into the top corner

Lee, Highbury

Shoaib asks about goal to ‘banger’ ratio. He names Tugay/Berger/Taylor who would all feature in the EPL worldies of the early 2000’s.

I would nominate Carlos Vela. Didn’t score many for Arsenal but when he did it was more often than not the most nonchalant chip or dink over the GK. In fact he continued to do so even after leaving the premier league.

In my book those are as good as the 25 yard hit and hope thunderbastards.

I always felt Vela was just at Arsenal at the wrong time, I’m glad the guy had a good career after. Scoring goals in La Liga and for Mexico and then getting his presumably big money move to MLS.

Honourable mention to Aaron Ramsey as well. It’s easy to forget just how many worldies,

Hats, Isle of Man, Arsenal

To add to Sohaib’s list, two players that always seem to stick in my mind as scoring screamers are the Newcastle legends, Frenchmen Laurent Robert and Olivier Bernard.

Neill (Although can’t confirm my memory on Google), Ireland

Messi> Ronaldo

If Ronaldo was moving from Real Madrid to City, I’d have been like meh! You know like…But the potential transfer of Messi to City makes me sit up and take notice. Even cream my pants. Then it finally hits me… Messi>Ronaldo.

Keg (Epiphany) Breezy

Hey y’all,

I heard that City be planning to sign this talented bloke for quite a big sum. But since he don’t play in the PL, I wonder if y’all have any suggestions on YouTube vids or compilations. Would love to know what the big f’ing deal is about this Messi guy

Thanks,

Gaurav MUFC (Wondering if he’s better than Van de Beek)

Nickname

Wonder what nickname Ole has lined up for VDB. His name already ends in “y” so Ole will probably target his last name now. I propose “Beeky”. Suggestions?
