- Grammy-nominated rapper Logic signs a deal to stream exclusively on Twitch.
- The deal is worth seven figures, the rapper reveals in an interview.
- The announcement comes just days after Logic announced his retirement from the music industry.
Days after announcing his retirement from the music industry, Grammy Award-nominated rapper Logic has signed a deal with Twitch. Logic, whose final album No Pressure drops later this week, is known for being an avid gamer.
In an interview with The Verge, Logic said that,
I’m not this rapper guy, man, I’m just a nerd. I love video games. I’m blessed enough to have millions of fans and followers. So it is a great partnership.
The deal with Twitch doesn’t just give Logic a way to play video games in front of his fans. Logic also confirmed that the deal is worth seven figures. Twitch hasn’t revealed an exact number.
Logic, who has two Billboard U.S. number one albums to his name, will be streaming on Twitch every week. The first of these will take place on July 21 at 5 p.m. ET, where he’ll be sharing tracks off of his upcoming album, No Pressure. Fans can also expect gaming, studio sessions, special guests, and AMAs (Ask Me Anything), Twitch confirmed in a press release.
Twitch Loses Dr Disrespect, Gains Logic
This deal couldn’t come at a better time for Twitch, which is hurting after banning Dr Disrespect from the platform.
Dr Disrespect was one of Twitch’s most well-known creators. Logic isn’t thought of as a Dr Disrespect replacement, but it does show that Twitch is more than ready to splash the cash when it feels the need to boost its talent pool.
It also underscores the fact that streaming platforms like Twitch are no longer just competing for traditional game-streaming talent. Famous streamer Ninja may be a hot property following the Mixer shutdown, but he’s not the only big name that streaming platforms are trying to get.
Other Rappers Twitch Could Sign
Logic’s Twitch deal isn’t the first streaming-rap partnership that fans have seen, and it’s unlikely to be the last.
In February, budding Twitch competitor Caffeine signed a deal with Drake to stream Ultimate Rap League rap battles on the platform. This also followed a streaming deal with Migos rapper Offset that was announced last year.
Other rap and hip hop performers known for their love of gaming are Lil Yachty, Post Malone, Kyle, and T-Pain, who often streams on Twitch. Tyler, The Creator, whose passion for the Skate series may have helped Skate 4 to happen, is also big into video games. The Twitch masses would love any of these, so exclusive deals with them could be next.
