Django Unchained Getting A Directors Cut

Three years ago, Spyglass Media acquired the Weinstein Company’s film and TV library in a bankruptcy auction. Today they have announced that they have sold the bulk of that library to Lionsgate Entertainment.

The sale is part of a broader partnership between the two which will see Lionsgate take a 20% equity stake in Spyglass. At the same timeSpyglass gets a first-look TV deal with Lionsgate.

Included in the sale are Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” “Inglourious Basterds” and “The Hateful Eight” along with acclaimed titles like “The King’s Speech,” “Fruitvale Station” and “Silver Linings Playbook”.

That helps Lionsgate pad out its library of 17,000 titles, while Spyglass gets operating capital to focus on developing new projects. They will retain around 70 titles such as the forthcoming fifth “Scream” installment.
