Kasi Lemmons (“Harriet,” “Eve’s Bayou”) has come on to direct the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” at TriStar Pictures.
Lemmons will replace Stella Meghie who exited the director’s position due to creative differences, but will remain on as an executive producer.
Naomi Ackie (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”) is on board to play Houston with a script by Academy Award nominee Anthony McCarten (“Bohemian Rhapsody”).
The film will deal with Houston’s career and life. Houston was the most awarded female music artist of all time and is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, though struggled with addiction.
Sony and TriStar Pictures will release the film in theaters around Thanksgiving 2022.
