Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has turned down the chance to sign Rodrygo after being offered the Real Madrid winger, according to reports in Spain.
The Brazil international signed for Real Madrid in 2019 from Santos for a fee in the region of €45m (£38m).
Rodrygo has scored 11 goals in 89 appearances in all competitions with the winger only making seven starts in La Liga for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this campaign.
Who is the best: Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland?
A report in December last year insisted that Rodrygo was identified as a potential January signing for Liverpool and that a £68m offer was being considered.
The Reds had actually been interested in the Brazilian while he was at Santos, bidding £40m for his services at one point.
But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano quickly dismissed those reports at the time. He said that there is both ‘no plan’ for Real to sell and ‘no negotiation’ taking place with Liverpool.
And Spanish publication Nacional claims that Rodrygo is ‘not at all satisfied with his situation at Real Madrid’ and ‘wants to leave as soon as possible’.
It is said that Liverpool ‘were interested in hiring him on several occasions’ in the past but that he turned them down and ‘opted for Madrid’.
Real Madrid want ‘at least €65m (£55m)’ to let him go now with Liverpool ‘offered’ the 21-year-old, as the Premier League ‘seduces him a lot’.
However, Nacional claims that Klopp has ‘rejected him’ as he ‘does not forgive the betrayal’ of a couple of years ago.
Rodrygo sees Liverpool as a ‘very attractive destination’ as he thinks their style of play would help him ‘exploit his full potential’ but ‘Klopp no longer wants to know anything about Rodrygo’.
Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold believes Klopp’s multi-talented squad are capable of winning a treble this season.
“Definitely on all four fronts it makes it easier having so many great players in the team,” the England international said.
“But the seasons when we won the Champions League and almost won the league we showed people we can compete on multiple fronts.
“To be in all four fronts is good for us. Our focus is on making sure we are still in all four competitions for as long as we can go.
“Looking at it now there is only the league that is not really in our hands, all the other cup competitions we are in we believe we can win them or beat everyone on our day if we get it right.
“So the only one is the league – and anything can happen there. It is important for us to keep winning games.
“I don’t think nine points gap is much pressure but we need to keep as much pressure on as we can, make sure we win the game in hand and take it to six.
“There is not much in our hands but anything can happen in this league so make sure we are in a position to pounce if they slip.
“The other three competitions we believe we are able to win them.”
