Nearly twenty years after his last feature directorial effort with 2003’s “Open Range,” Kevin Costner is going back behind the camera for the period drama “Western Horizon”.
The story takes an expansive and multi-faceted approach as it chronicles a fifteen-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American west.
Costner will star in the film, produce it and finance it through his Territory Pictures production company. Further casting will begin in February ahead of an August 29th production start in Utah.
The news comes as the Costner-led TV series “Yellowstone” continues to be a ratings smash and has drawn awards nominations. The project would mark Costner’s fourth directorial effort, the first two being “Dances with Wolves” in 1990 and “The Postman” in 1997.
