Joe Rogan has announced he’s tested positive for Covid-19, just months after making controversial comments about the vaccine.
The US podcaster shared a video to his Instagram on Wednesday explaining that he began to feel unwell over the weekend.
He’s also postponed a live show in Nashville which will now take place on October 24.
Joe, who is under a $100million (£73m) contract with Spotify, explained: ‘I got back from the road Saturday night feeling very weary. I had a headache. I felt just run down. Just to be cautious, I separated from my family, slept in a different part of the house and throughout the night I got fevers and sweats and I knew what was going on.’
The 54-year-old then revealed he was using ivermectin, a livestock deworming medicine that the US Food and Drug Administration has warned is an unsafe treatment for Covid.
He said: ‘We immediately threw the kitchen sink at it: all kinds of meds. Monoclonal antibodies, ivermectin, Z-pack, prednisone – everything… I also got an NAD drip and a vitamin drip and I did that three days in a row.
‘Crazy times we’re living in, but a wonderful, heartfelt thank you to modern medicine for pulling us out so quickly and easily.’
In April, Joe sparked backlash after claiming there was no need for fit and healthy young people to get the vaccine, going against guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), which stated it is safe for over 16s and necessary for America to reach herd immunity.
While saying it was important for ‘vulnerable’ to get the injection, he added: ‘People say, Do you think it’s safe to get vaccinated? I’ve said, yeah, I think for the most part it’s safe to get vaccinated. I do. I do.
‘But if you’re like 21 years old, and you say to me, Should I get vaccinated? I’ll go no,’ he said.
‘If you’re a healthy person, and you’re exercising all the time, and you’re young, and you’re eating well, like, I don’t think you need to worry about this.’
Days later he backtracked on his comments, admitting he was ‘not a respected source of information’, branding himself a ‘f**king moron’.
Joe said: ‘I’m not an anti-vaxx person. I said I believe they’re safe and I encourage many people to take them.
‘My parents were vaccinated. I just said that if you’re a young, healthy person that you don’t need it. Their argument was, you need it for other people … But that’s a different argument. That’s a different conversation.
‘I’m not a doctor, I’m a f**king moron, and I’m a cage-fighting commentator who is a dirty stand-up comedian. I’m drunk most of the time, and I do testosterone and I smoke a lot of weed…
‘I’m not a respected source of information, even for me … But I at least try to be honest about what I’m saying.’
