Hulu has released a new official trailer for Helstrom, an adaptation of the Marvel Comics standalone story based outside of the superhero MCU that has a greater emphasis on horror and the supernatural. The trailer looks to honor those roots, with a moody atmosphere, haunting soundtrack, and a great balance of foreboding danger and even jump scares. Check it out below.
According to a release, Helstrom’s plot is as follows: “As the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, Helstrom follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity–each with their own attitude and skills.” That description is admittedly somewhat cryptic, which seems intentional on Hulu’s part: Aside from this trailer and that synopsis, all that’s known about the series (aside from the source material in the comics) is that all 10 episodes of the first season will premiere October 16 on Hulu. Newcomers and hardcore fans alike can still pore over the Comic-Con@Home Helstrom panel from back in July.
Helstrom is created for television and executive produced by showrunner Paul Zbyszewski along with Karim Zreik and Jeph Loeb. It stars Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards), and Robert Wisdom (The Wire), Tom Austen (Batman: Arkham VR), and Sydney Lemmon (Velvet Buzzsaw).
“We feel incredibly fortunate to have landed a cast loaded with this much talent,” Zbyszewski told Deadline last year. “From the beginning, we knew we’d need a group of actors who were multifaceted, who could play all the chords any great Marvel show promises to play, from dramatic thriller to comedy to action. It’s going to be really fun to watch them work.”
