“Horizon: Forbidden West” Release Adjusted

Sony Interactive Ent.

Following a backlash and confusion over the various different versions to be made available, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced changes to the release of “Horizon: Forbidden West” on Saturday.

Multiple editions of the game were announced and made available for pre-order on Thursday, but the glaring complaint was that those who bought the $60 standard PS4 edition had no ‘upgrade path’ to the PS5 version – meaning you’d have to buy the whole game again for the PS5 version. Only the $80 Digital Deluxe edition or above contained both the PS4 & PS5 versions of the game.

Now, SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan announced a change in an update posted to Sony’s PlayStation Blog which confirms that regardless of whatever version you buy – the $60 PS4 standard, the $70 PS5 standard, the $80 Deluxe or higher – all versions will get both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game included at no additional charge.

Ryan also confirmed that moving forward after the new ‘Horizon’, all PlayStation’s first-party exclusive cross-gen titles newly releasing on PS4 & PS5 (both digital and physical) will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option for those with the PS4 version to upgrade to the PS5 version.

That will apply to “God of War: Ragnarok,” “Gran Turismo 7” and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Horizon Forbidden West” will launch on PS4 and PS5 on February 18th 2022.
