HBO Max Scraps “Boondocks” Revival

Adult Swim

HBO Max has scrapped its planned two-season revival of the animated series “The Boondocks” which it ordered back in late 2019.

The twenty-four new episodes were set to launch on HBO Max in Fall 2020, but now it seems the series never went into production.

Voice actor Cedric Yarbrough, appearing on the Geekset Podcast this week, says “the show is not coming back” and “hopefully one day we’ll be able to revisit it”

Based on Aaron McGruder’s comic, the series was set to follow the adventures of self-proclaimed ‘Civil Rights Legend’ Robert ‘Granddad’ Freeman and his two rambunctious grandsons who recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland.

McGruder was on board to act as showrunner and executive produce alongside Norm Aladjem. Sony Pictures Animation was producing the series and tells EW that they are “currently discussing next steps”.
