Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“Waves”) and Aaron Pierre (“The Underground Railroad”) are set to lead voice cast of “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins’ “The Lion King” prequel.

The untitled live-action project will continue with the photorealistic animation technology that director Jon Favreau used in the blockbuster 2019 remake of the Disney animated classic.

Jeff Nathanson, who scripted the previous films, is back to write the screenplay for this which will deal with Mufasa’s origin story and further explore the mythology of the iconic characters. Pierre plays Mufasa, while Harrsion Jr. is Taka.

Hans Zimmer (who scored the original and 2019 version), Pharrell, and Nicholas Britell (“Succession”) are all working on the music for the film which is now in production.

Additional casting is now underway. Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak are producing.
