GTA 6 is never coming out and Rockstar don’t care – Reader’s Feature

A reader thinks that Rockstar will never make a GTA 6 and that there’s more chance they’ll remaster GTA 5 for the PlayStation 6.

So, now we know the GTA remaster trilogy is real and it’s going to be out this year, just like the rumours said. That’s hundreds of hours’ worth of GTA in one shot, which is going to keep a lot of people busy for a long time. It’ll easily last all the way to March and the release of GTA 5 on next gen consoles, which also means you can forget hearing about GTA 6 until then. And… at least two years after that.

The most recent rumour puts GTA 6 as coming out in 2025. That’s right, four years from now. That means that someone that first played GTA 5 as 18-year-old, when it first came out on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will be in their thirties by the time the GTA 6 is out. Assuming it doesn’t get delayed, which it probably will.

This is so far away it seems almost impossible, given how quickly any other company would’ve made a sequel. It seems insane at first but the more you think about it the more it makes sense, from Rockstar’s point of view at least. If the next gen versions of GTA 5 are out in March there’s no way GTA 6 is going to come out soon after it. What would be the point? They’re not going to put all that effort into a new version of GTA 5 only to release a completely new game, that everyone would immediately move over to, just a year or two later.

If anything, 2025 feels a bit optimistic when you put it that way. Rockstar will want to give the next gen versions of GTA 5 a good few years in the clear before they even think about a replacement. Otherwise they’d just end up cannibalising sales from their own game. I think it goes further than that though… I don’t think they have any intention of making GTA 6.

All these rumours are all very good but there’s not an ounce of proof behind any of them, which given how many hundreds of people must be working on the game, if it exists, seems impossible. Especially given the GTA remasters leaked long ago, and their rumours turned out to be extremely accurate.

Think about where we’ll be in 2025. The PlayStation 5 will be five years old, and it’ll be time to start thinking about the next generation again. If GTA 5 has been released on three generations in a row, then why not a fourth? The only reason to stop would be if it wasn’t pulling in as much money as before but GTA Online is still massively successful, more than ever in fact.

Why stop supporting that to make a game that may well not be as popular? This is GTA we’re talking about, so obviously it will be successful, but GTA 5 has sold 150 million copies. A theoretical GTA 6 could sell 100 million copies and be one of the best-selling games of all time, and still only sell a third of GTA 5.

My prediction is that Rockstar will not make a GTA 6. Instead, they’ll continue to upgrade and remaster GTA Online as new hardware is released. They’ll probably add new cities and areas and another major features but all the money for the series is now locked up in the online mode and it makes much more financial sense to add to that than make GTA 6 and have to focus all their efforts on a new single-player mode for the next few years.

I may be wrong but if we go another couple of years without an official announcement, I’m sure I’m not the only one that will come to the same conclusion and realise that GTA 6 is never happening.
