Viewers of George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces were left stunned as a young couple transformed a houseboat into their dream home.
Gabby and Callum were priced out of being able to buy their own home, and with the couple living in a small double room with their dog, they were desperate for more space.
The couple put down £48,000 to buy the empty shell of a canal boat to make their home, with a budget of £20,000 to complete the transformation.
Neither Gabby nor Callum had ever lived on – or even stayed the night on – a boat before, so it’s safe to say they jumped in at the deep end (no pun intended) with their first project.
Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
Living without electricity and water for seven months as they worked on the interior, they were soon ready to show off the amazing results of their hard work.
Although the pair did end up going £17,000 over their initial budget, their transformation was seriously high-end – and they even incorporated a full-sized shower, too.
The couple are planning to move their home every two weeks as you can moor for free for up to a fortnight, but the couple are mortgage-free on their unusual abode.
Viewers were seriously impressed with the luxury floating pad, tweeting: ‘Omg this houseboat on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces really is amazing! So jealous’.
Others added: ‘George Clarke’s amazing spaces this barge this couple did is class its beautiful.. High end finish’ and ‘I think boats are becoming more popular do like the walls actually’.
While the thought of not having a mortgage is dreamy enough, the couple can also up and move without any hassle or costs whenever they like – and that sounds pretty savvy to us.
George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
