Coming down from the mostly good reviews and great box-office for the new James Bond film “No Time to Die,” filmmaker Cary Fukunaga has spoken a little bit about a project he has long been tied to – Stanley Kubrick’s unproduced “Napoleon” feature.
Around five years back Fukunaga was linked to what was set to be an HBO TV series adaptation of the Napoleon Bonaparte biopic which Steven Spielberg would produce. However there’s been next to nothing reported about it since then.
Speaking with Collider recently, Fukunaga says he is still working on it and is sure it’ll happen:
“[I’ve] been working on [‘Napoleon’] now for, I wanna say, four or five years, maybe longer. So yeah, I’m definitely involved in that. We’ve got all the scripts of the episodes now and we’re getting ready to see where the next stage is on it. So it’s happening.
I’ve spent a lot of time in [Kurbrick’s] library and at the house at St. Albans with Christiane, his wife, and Jan [Harlan], his brother-in-law. It’s pretty awesome to just even be in the presence of Kubrick’s library.”
Fukunaga has recently been serving as director of the first few episodes of the Spielberg-produced Apple TV+ mini-series “Masters of the Air” which serves as a follow-up to “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific”.
