It might be intermittently PISSING IT DOWN outside, but festival season’s pretty much upon us pal. Now obviously we’re all frantically scrolling Instagram for festival inspo that doesn’t involve your overdone 2011 flower crown and glitter stencil; but what on God’s green (re: probably very muddy) Earth are we gonna do with our hair?
Well thankfully our friends over at ghd have given us a couple of super-simple staple festival looks. Fishtail and a textured wave, anyone? Even we can do these, and that’s saying something.
Festival fishtail braid
Step 1
Taking large sections, apply the ghd root lift spray throughout the hair. Applying 2-4 sprays per section of hair will create the perfect foundation for a textured look.
Step 2
Separate the hair into 4 sections, twisting hair as you dry using the ghd Air® hairdryer. TOP TIP: Dry the hair slowly running the hairdryer along the twisted hair. Be sure not to place the hairdryer directly onto the hair.
Step 3
Apply the ghd curl hold spray which contains the ghd heat protection system, for long lasting protection and hold.
Step 4
Place the ghd Platinum® styler at the root and rotate half a turn to start creating some movement within the hair. Continue to rotate as you push down and glide the styler through to the ends. Release the hair from the styler towards the ends of the hair to achieve a modern straight end.
Step 5
Repeat this technique, changing the direction that you turn the styler for each section of hair, to create a beachier wave and undone texture.
Step 6
Once the hair has cooled, use the ghd detangling comb to loosen the waves by combing from roots to ends. Personalise your look by massaging small sections of hair between your fingers to add extra texture.
Step 7
For an added Bohemian element, take a small section of hair from behind the ear and add a micro braid. Secure by teasing the hair and finish with a spritz of hairspray rather than adding a band.
Festival textured wave
Step 1
Keeping the hair in a natural centre parting, prep the hair with ghd root lift spray and allow it to dry naturally.
Step 2
Separate both sides of the hair to create two low ponytails to sit on either side of your shoulders. Next, split these ponytails into two more sections.
Step 3
Take a small section of hair from behind the left side. Pass it around the outside, over the front, and integrate into the right side. Then, take a small section of hair from behind the right side. Pass it around the outside, over the front, and integrate into the left. This will form a fishtail braid.
Repeat these steps through both sides, securing the ends with an elastic band.
TIP: accessorize the look by using a coloured band or neon elastic!
Step 4
Next, gently pull the braid apart to achieve a summery undone texture with an effortless edge.
Step 5
Accessorise the look by adding neon bands to create a modern edge.
Step 6
To finish the look, take small sections from the hairline and place the styler at the root, rotating half a turn to create a soft wave. Repeat this in different directions to create a soft beachy texture!
