Ferrari reveals they still won’t have its ‘main’ car update at the Miami GP

Ferrari is continuing to work with what they have and appears to be rather content with the way that they have been approaching each Grand Prix thus far, as the team has revealed that they will not be introducing its ‘main’ car in the Miami GP this coming weekend.

The constructor has slowly been making slight changes to its current car, including to the floor of the vehicle, however they have been reluctant to introduce new parts since the season began on March 20 at the Bahrain International Circuit in the Bahrain GP.

Slight tweaks have been made by Ferrari

Indeed, that is not to say that the team has considered making changes, as they looked at using a modified diffuser at the Australian GP as they used it on Charles Leclerc’s car during the Friday practice session, however they opted against using it in the proper race due to it being an experiment that was designed to gather further intel and data for the team’s development plan.

Last week’s Imola GP saw the team deciding against revealing its update because of an unfavorable schedule because of the one practice session that was then followed by the season’s first sprint qualifier, thus making them have to be ready to go with what they had.

Now, they have decided that a new floor will not come to the upcoming race in Miami, as they are planning to trial another aspect, including a new downforce configuration. Additionally, further tweaks could be made for the race too.

Mattia Binotto has revealed the news, whilst admitting the ‘main’ upgrades will come after the race in America.

Solid start to the F1 2022 season

Indeed, the team has already had a rather solid start to the 2022 F1 season, with Leclerc having managed to win two of the first four races, with a second-place finish, too. Carlos Sainz Jr. also has had a strong start, although he suffered a DNF at the Australian GP and at Imola, whereas Leclerc only managed sixth.

Of course, this weekend will see the inaugural Miami GP take place as it was only recently added to the F1 calendar. However, this has only seen a number of people become extremely interested in what could happen on the race track.

Naturally, there is a lot of interest in regard to betting on the event, with punters already able to place a variety of different wagers across a plethora of different markets that are available, including the ever-popular favorite to win the race.

Given the start that Ferrari has had to the F1 2022 season, there will be many expecting the Italian constructor to continue its ascent and challenge the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull Racing.

Red Bull has already admitted they are in for a challenge

Indeed, Red Bull has already admitted they expect the famous red Ferrari to be a challenger to them all season long, with team boss Christian Horner making a number of admissions.

It has been a season to forget for defending champion Max Verstappen at the moment, whilst Sergio Perez continues to make sure Red Bull is able to challenge at the top. However, Horner has admitted that their rivals have great drivers and a great car, something their own Dutch driver perhaps does not feel he currently has.

Ferrari will want to have a top Miami GP

Whatever happens on the race track at the inaugural Miami GP remains to be seen, however, Ferrari will certainly be hoping that the early season form that they have had will provide them with the momentum to help them get over the line, even if they decide to look at making some tweaks as they build towards its ‘main’ car.

What we do know, though, is that Leclerc and Ferrari will be hoping a repeat of the disaster at Imola does not happen again, whilst Sainz. Jr will undoubtedly be hoping that he does not have a third DNF in a row when they take to the track in Miami.

If either – or both – of them can land on the podium and one takes the winner’s position, Ferrari would be able to take greater command of the constructor’s championship, where they are already boasting an 11-point lead over Red Bull Racing and a further 47 point lead over Mercedes.
