Many people strive to get those highly coveted six-pack abs. And while there is no question about it, it takes a lot of hard work to get those fabulous abs without you are one of those few genetically blessed individuals. But this does not necessarily mean you would be healthy. In fact, many people who have six-pack abs may be anything but healthy. Here's why …

1. Low Body Fat Percentages. First, remember while it may look great to have a very lean body, this is not always healthy. Especially for a woman. Women are not designed to have six-pack abs because they need to carry enough body fat to help them be able to produce a child. Many women who become incredibly lean lose their periods which in turn often presents various other health issues.

While a few women can become lean without a problem, they are the exception, not the norm.

2. Becoming Lean Does Not Mean Eating Healthily. Next, keep in mind becoming lean does not necessarily mean you are eating healthily. In fact, it often means the opposite. Those who arrive at having very low body fat levels are …

  • often restricting themselves from eating a large variety of foods,
  • cutting their carbs,
  • eating an extremely low-fat diet, and so on.

This is not what is necessary for good health.

Furthermore, you do not have to eat healthy food alone to become lean. Losing body fat is all about eating fewer calories than you burn. You can do that while occasionally eating pizza, chocolate, and a few other foods not classed as being healthy.

Becoming healthy on the other hand is about eating a good variety of foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. While you can do both at once, they are not mutually exclusive.

3. Having An Unnatural Obsession With Exercise. Finally, those who do become extremely lean often have an extreme obsession with exercise. It takes a lot of work for most people to reach these low levels of body fat percentages and this may mean exercising almost every day for an hour or longer.

Too much exercise can lead to …

  • bone-related problems,
  • overuse injuries like tendonitis, and
  • psychological issues.

Do not think because a person has flat abs it means that they are the picture of perfect health. Often this is not the case. Involving professionals such as a nutritionist and an exercise specialist will often make it easier to achieve and stick with a set of health objectives.
