Actor Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page, is staying in the role of Vanya Hargreeves in “The Umbrella Academy” at Netflix confirms EW.
Page came out as transgender earlier today with a post about their transition on social media on Tuesday, saying: “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
There was a question as to whether Page might not want to continue playing a role of another gender for the third season of the series, a show in which he is the top billed actor. However he is very much still onboard and committed.
Page’s announcement has been widely greeted with congratulations and support from fans and followers, as well as GLAAD. Their professional credit has also already been updated on Netflix’s interface who have voiced their support in a tweet saying: “So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT! Can’t wait to see you return in season 3!.”
