EastEnders star Simone Lahbib is certain that her sex offender alter ego, sinister Katy Lewis, will get her comeuppance as she lays her hopes on Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) reporting her to the police.
The actress explained: ‘Personally, I really want it to happen! I really want to see Katy Lewis get her just desserts and justice to be served. I hope it goes beyond Shirley beating her up and that she goes to prison but who knows!’
She got one form of punishment when she came face to face with Mick’s mum Shirley (Linda Henry) – and received a smack to the face.
Admitting that it was a very satisfying scene to film, Simone shared: ‘When I read it I was glad to see it happening, I could imagine the audience saying “Yes! Go Shirley!” with a real feeling of satisfaction because Katy is such a nasty character.
‘I did my own make up and the blood – it was funny we were just about to go for a take that ended up being slightly delayed and I was there with all this fake blood up my nose, head tipped back trying to keep it all in there! It’s so sticky and sweet, I would have loved to use even more of it!’
Praising co-star Linda, she went on: ‘I really rate Linda as an actress and I wish we had more scenes because she’s brilliant. I was looking forward to it but when I first read it I thought “uh oh…Linda Henry has to beat me up!” then of course, I remembered that it’s all pretend!
‘She’s just great to work with. I remember her first day on set of Bad Girls as clear as day and she’s a good person. She’s very emotional, as a lot of actors can be, the complete opposite to Shirley, who is tough as nails!’
And despite the dark nature of the storyline and previously sharing it’s her toughest role to date, Simone has really enjoyed working on EastEnders.
She enthused: ‘I’ve been very lucky that I’ve done quite a lot of episodic TV and that means that you get to collaborate with people over the length of a storyline and you get to really build a bond – you become a team or like a family.
‘You’re all in it together and work on a different level because of that. It’s much less satisfying to play a role where you go in, do a few scenes and leave. I love collaborating so this has been great for that. Getting to know the directors too, just the whole thing has been great!’
Fans continue to praise the amazing performances of Simone in one of EastEnders’ darkest ever roles – and there is much more drama to come as Katy looks set to face justice for her crimes.
