EastEnders is set to make its long-awaited return, and viewers will finally get to see the moment Sharon Watts finds out her son Dennis was killed by Ian Beale.

The soap had finished on a cliffhanger, with Sharon (Letitia Dean) being unveiled as the new landlady of the Queen Victoria pub thanks to a bit of help from Ian (Adam Woodyatt), while still remaining in the dark about his hand in Denny’s (Bleu Landau) death.

After almost three months hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, EastEnders fans will get to catch up with life on the Square with four 20-minute episodes a week from 7 September.

Following Sharon and Ian buying The Vic from Mick and Linda Carter, they were forced to close their doors due to the pandemic – however business is going well again for the pub since lockdown restrictions were eased.

Despite their business flourishing, trouble is brewing in the form of Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero) who has been keeping the secret that Ian was responsible for Denny’s death by locking him in a room below deck as the party boat they’d been on started to sink.

While Ian tried to save him when the boat began to go down, he was unable to free him in time and while Ian survived, Denny died in the incident.

Dotty now thinks Sharon deserves to know the truth, which is unlikely to end well for Ian or their life-long friendship…

Speaking about the return of EastEnders, Executive Producer Jon Sen revealed: ‘From the moment we turned the lights out in The Queen Vic our ambition was to come back with a bang and this autumn certainly does that.

‘As soon as Albert Square reawakens the drama returns at a pace and, although working within social distancing guidelines has certainly given us some new challenges, I am incredibly proud of what everyone has achieved.

‘The show is looking fantastic and we can’t wait for “series two” to begin…’

EastEnders will return to BBC One at 8.00pm on Monday, September 7 and air four nights a week.
