Drag Race Holland’s eliminated queen Madame Madness on failing to impress judges after shaving off iconic beard

**This article contains spoilers from Drag Race Holland episode four**

The latest eliminated queen from Drag Race Holland is livid after shaving off their iconic beard to impress the judges only to be told to bring it back.

Madama Madness – real name Rowan Gerritsen – had a unique approach to drag, waltzing into the workroom on the first episode, rocking a great beard while showing off their powerful feminity.

‘Well girls, this is a moustache,’ Madame Madness, 24, even said for their entrance speech as they became the franchise’s first bearded queen (we’re sure it makes more sense in Dutch.)

The queen wanted to deconstruct what it meant to be masculine or feminine, resulting in an iconic drag persona.

With each runway look, the judges – Fred van Leer, Nikkie Plessen along with each episode’s guest judges – commented on how they didn’t understand the beard, and Madame Madness wanted to prove them wrong.

‘From the first runway on I just constantly had opinions from the judges that they didn’t understand the beard or it’s too painted in or it’s takes too much out of the whole loop,’ the queen told Metro.co.uk.

‘So that was the main focus point that they had as a critique for me. Besides, I like challenges. So I thought to myself, “how can I make the judges happy and also get the shock factor?”‘

They continued: ‘And I was like, “Well, the main thing about being a bearded queen is having the beard so what if I just shave it off?” Just to give a big shock factor to the show.’

Guest judge and choreographer Amber Vineyard was ‘gagged’ when Madame Madness revealed their clean shaven face on the runway, but the other judges weren’t as impressed.

‘I do miss the beard,’ Nikkie told them, before Amber chimed in with: ‘I do want to see you own it more, baby.’

Fred then told the queen to ‘believe in yourself’ and ‘f**k them all,’ which Madame Madness was confused about, considering they were told for weeks the beard didn’t work.

‘I was like, Okay, so I’ve been told for three weeks now that you didn’t understand the beard and now you suddenly like it, huh?”‘ they laughed.

‘It takes more than a month to get a bit of the beard back, and I was eliminated. So I was just sitting at home with a baby face like, “Wow, this is nice.”‘

It was a tough week for the contestant after Fred threw a spanner in the works by asking every queen who they thought would be in the lip-sync battle.

They all mentioned Madame Madness (along with Abby OMG), but the star – who was barely safe last week and in the bottom two in the week before – was surprisingly understanding with the elimination and hopes to work on new things going forward.

Like what, you ask? Possibly starting her own YouTube channel to help new queens learn the basics on drag.
