Man City star Kevin de Bruyne will reportedly reject a new contract offer from club officials.

City want the Belgian playmaker to sign a new long term deal to keep him at the club until at least 2024.

They also want to ward off any potential interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

But according to The Times, de Bruyne is prepared to reject their first offer as he is ‘disappointed’ with it.

The report states that de Bruyne wants a massive new weekly wage which will reflect his status as one of the best players in the Premier League.

He currently earns around £280,000 a week and is contracted until June 2023 at the Etihad Stadium.

Any new deal would have to exceed the £300,000 a week mark, making him one of the best paid players in world football.

De Bruyne will apparently turn down the first offer and continue to negotiate a better deal with his agent.

The news comes after de Bruyne showed his worth to City with a stunning display in the 3-1 victory over Chelsea yesterday.

The 29-year-old assisted Phil Foden and scored one of his own in the first half to sweep past the Blues.

He was arguably the best player on the pitch yesterday as City showed ‘title form’, according to boss Pep Guardiola.

De Bruyne has enjoyed a successful start to the Premier League season overall, registering eight assists in 14 games.

He is also the best creator so far, setting up 13 big chances for his teammates. However, his goal tally of three is below his usually high standards.

The Belgium international is likely to start in City’s next match. They play rivals Man Utd on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup semi final.
