Date Changes: Protege, Shotgun, Bird, Black, Room

A couple of key release date changes today.

The Protege
Previously known as “The Asset,” the Samuel L. Jackson, Maggie Q and Michael Keaton-led revenge thriller “The Protege” will arrive in cinemas on August 20th. Martin Campbell directs from a script by Richard Wenk.

Shotgun Wedding
The Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel-led romantic action comedy “Shotgun Wedding” has set a June 29th 2022 release. The story follows two opinionated families meeting for a traditional wedding only to find themselves taken hostage and working together to save the happy couple’s special day.

White Bird: A Wonder Story
The Gillian Anderson and Helen Mirren-led adaptation of RJ Palacia’s novel “White Bird: A Wonder Story” has set a September 16th 2022 release. The Marc Foster-helmed film depicts a couple hiding from Nazis in wartime France escaping into a world they create for themselves before they eventually escape into each other’s arms.

Stand By Me
Fathom Events will bring Rob Reiner’s iconic 1986 coming of age classic “Stand By Me” back to select movie theaters nationwide on Sunday, May 23rd and Wednesday, May 26th to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland starred in this adaptation of “The Body” by Stephen King.

The Black Phone
Scott Derrickson’s horror thriller “The Black Phone,” starring Ethan Hawke, has set a January 28th 2022 release. Mason Thames plays a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer (Hawke) and trapped in a soundproof basement
A disconnected phone on the wall allows him to hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims.

Escape Room 2
Sony and Adam Robitel’s horror thriller “Escape Room 2” has been moved up six months to a July 16th 2021 release. The move back comes not long after the already-completed film was delayed nearly a year.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal
Netflix has purchased the global streaming distribution rights (outside of Japan) to the two-part anime feature “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal the Movie”. Both parts will debut on Netflix on June 3rd.

Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans
Finally, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has confirmed a July 21st premiere date for his Netflix-DreamWorks Animation movie “Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans” which is set in the world created by del Toro over his trilogy of “Tales of Arcadia” series. A brief teaser for that film is also available below:
