It could only ever be a matter of time before manipulative abuser Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) was caught and brought to justice – as is the law of Coronation Street that a character as monstrous as him can only have a certain shelf life.
During his time in the show, he has certainly brought no end of misery – not least of all to his long suffering and abused wife Yasmeen (Shelley King). Yasmeen now resides in the prison hospital wing after a heart operation and has admitted that she feels safer locked up than being in a home with Geoff – and we can’t blame her.
But things are about to come spectacularly undone for control freak Geoff, whose own obsession with watching his wife will become his downfall.
Now that Sally (Sally Dynevor) knows the existence of the CCTV cameras, she takes a huge risk and lets herself into Yasmeen’s, where she bravely swipes Geoff’s laptop, containing the footage. However, she is caught red handed when he walks in and realises what is going on.
As he aggressively confronts her, Sally runs out of the house screaming and a worried Tim takes her inside, shaken to see her in such a state. They then sit and go through the laptop to see what evidence they can find – which leads to Tim conceding to Alya that she has been right about Geoff all of this time.
With even Tim now seeing the truth, it seems like Geoff’s days are numbered – with no allies left, things are falling apart for him.
And then, when the police arrive to question him as new evidence comes to light, his face whitens. Is this the end of the line for Geoff?
With fans hoping that the police will lock him away and throw away the key, justice may finally be done…
We hope, anyway!
