Stargirl
Uma Thurman, Judd Hirsch and Tyrel Jackson Williams have joined the cast of the Disney+ sequel to last year’s young adult romantic drama “Stargirl” based on Jerry Spinelli’s novel.

Star Grace VanderWaal and director Julia Hart are among those returning and are joined by actor Elijah Richardson. Thurman will play a musician Stargirl admires, Hirsch her new neighbor and Williams the brother of Richardson’s love interest. [Source: THR]

Mack and Rita
Oscar-winner Diane Keaton and rising actress Taylour Paige (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”) are set to star in Katie Aselton Duplass’s new comedy “Mack and Rita” on Netflix.

Said to be akin to “Big,” the story follows a thirtysomething woman who, long admiring her carefree grandma, stumbles into a sound bath regression pod and comes out as a 70-year-old woman. She learns being comfortable in your own skin isn’t a given at any age. [Source: Deadline]

Crater
Mckenna Grace (“Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” “Gifted”) is set to star in coming-of-age tale “Crater” for Disney+ with Kyle Patrick Alvarez on board to direct. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce while John Griffin penned the script.

After the death of his father, a boy growing up on a lunar mining colony takes a trip to explore a mysterious crater, along with his four best friends, prior to being permanently relocated to another planet. Grace will play one of the friends. [Source: Deadline]

Untitled Showtime Project
Michael Chiklis (“The Shield,” “Fantastic Four”) will play Celtics coach Red Auerbach in HBO’s upcoming scripted series about the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s.

Auerbach won 9 NBA championships and as general manager, he won 7 more. When the Lakers’ rise threatens his Boston dynasty, he proves himself to be the basketball genius and cut-throat competitor of every Laker fan’s nightmares. [Source: Variety]
