Day Shift
Dave Franco, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Oliver Masucci, Steve Howey and C.S. Lee will join Jamie Foxx in J.J. Perry’s “Day Shift’ at Netflix. Tyler Tice penned the script with Shay Hatten doing re-writes, while Chad Stahelski and Jason Spitz will produce.
The story follows a hard-working blue-collar dad (Foxx) who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool-cleaning job is a front for his real source of income: hunting and killing vampires. [Source: Deadline]
A Tourist’s Guide To Love
Rachael Leigh Cook (“She’s All That”) will star in the Netflix original feature “A Tourist’s Guide to Love” based on an original idea from Cook. Eirene Donohue is set to write the screenplay.
After an unexpected break up, a travel executive (Cook) accepts an assignment to go undercover and learn about the tourist industry in Vietnam. Along the way, she finds adventure and romance with her ex-pat tour guide when they decide to hijack the tour bus in order to explore life and love off the beaten path. [Source: Variety]
FBF
Ashley Judd is set to star in the upcoming young adult drama “#FBF,” a film that takes place almost entirely on smartphones and computer screen (ala “Searching”). Ilyssa Goodman is directing the film from a screenplay that she wrote with Ashley Peter.
The story follows teenager Annie (Cree Cicchino), who accidentally takes her mom’s (Judd) laptop instead of her own to visit her father in New Jersey. Annie soon realizes the laptop is everything she needs to pose as her mom for the day, repair her parents’ marriage and encourage them to move back from Florida. [Source: Variety]
The Good Nurse
Noah Emmerich (“The Americans”) and Kim Dickens (“Deadwood”) are joining Tobias Lindholm’s Netflix thriller “The Good Nurse” alongside Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne and Nnamdi Asomugha.
The true story tale follows nurse Charlie Cullen (Redmayne), who is widely believed to be the most prolific serial killer in recorded history, and his co-worker who brought him to justice. Krysty Wilson-Cairns penned the script based on the book by Charles Graeber. [Source: Deadline]
Catherine Called Birdy
Joe Alwyn (“The Favorite”) and Dean-Charles Chapman (“1917”) have joined the cast of Lena Dunham’s “Catherine Called Birdy” at Working Title Films. The pair join Andrew Scott and Bella Ramsey in the project which is currently shooting.
Based on Karen Cushman’s novel, the story follows the adventures of a teenage girl in medieval England as she tries to avoid the arranged marriages her father maps out for her. Chapman plays her older brother and Alwyn will play her uncle. [Source: Deadline]
