Berlin Nobody
Eric Bana and Kiernan Shipka are to star in filmmaker Jordan Scott’s Berlin-set thriller “Berlin Nobody” for Protagonist Pictures, based on Nicholas Hogg’s 2015 novel “Tokyo”. Ridley Scott is producing.
Bana plays an American social psychologist investigating a local cult connected to a disturbing event, while his daughter (Shipka) becomes embroiled with a mysterious local boy. Filming begins in September. [Source: Screen Daily]
Lights Out
Frank Grillo, Mekhi Phifer, Scott Adkins and Dermot Mulroney are set to star in the action feature “Lights Out” currently in pre-production for Firebrand. Garry Charles and Chad Law penned the film which will be directed by Christian Sesma.
The story will follow a drifting ex-soldier (Grillo) who turns underground fighter with the help of a just-released ex-con, pitting him against corrupt cops and hired killers now gunning for him and all those he cares about. [Source: Deadline]
The Iceman
“The Last King of Scotland” and “Black Sea” filmmaker Kevin Macdonald will direct the true story “The Iceman” with Joseph Fiennes aboard to star. Jeff Pope penned the script.
The story follows a prolific and larger-than-life postman turned extreme athlete Wim Hof who is best known for his breathing-focused workout in freezing temperatures. Filming begins in November. [Source: Variety]
The Estate
Kathleen Turner, Rosemarie DeWitt and Keyla Monterroso have joined the Toni Collette and Anna Faris-led comedy “The Estate” at Signature Films. Dean Craig directs and also wrote the script and filming begins next month in New Orleans.
The story revolves around sisters Macey (Collette) and Savanna (Faris) who learn their wealthy but estranged Aunt Hilda is dying from cancer. At first, seeing this as an opportunity to get her inheritance, they soon learn others in the family have plans of their own. [Source: Variety]
Freelance
Christian Slater will join John Cena, Alison Brie and Juan Pablo Raba in Pierre Morel’s action-comedy “Freelance” which is filming in Colombia.
The story follows a former special forces operator and takes a gig providing security for a female journalist as she interviews a cruel dictator. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to go on the run. [Source: Deadline]
