Sad new details about the death of Full House star Bob Saget have emerged, with the actor’s family confirming he died from an accidental blow to the head. “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma,” Saget’s family said in a statement, according to the Washington Post. “They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it, and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.”
As the New York Times recounts, Saget died on January 9. He was found dead in his room at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando after spending the night performing a show in his “I Don’t Do Negative” stand-up tour. A security officer at the accommodation discovered him unresponsive in his hotel bed after he did not check out that morning. Authorities disclosed that there were no signs of foul play, but there were few other details released to the public at the time.
Saget was only 65 years old. He was most widely known as the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos (from 1989 to 1997); his widowed dad character, Danny Tanner, on ABC sitcom Full House; and for reprising that role in the recent Fuller House, which aired from 2016 to 2020. Some might also remember him as the voice of the older Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother.
Just before he passed away, Saget was enjoying a resurgence in his stand-up comedy career, sharing his delight in an Instagram post uploaded on the night of his death. “I loved tonight’s show in Jacksonville. Really nice audience. Lots of positivity,” he wrote. “I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it. A’ight, see you in two weeks.”
Saget’s death was met with a stream of tributes from actors and comedians. “I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby,” his Full House costar John Stamos shared on Twitter. His family said in a statement: “As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”
