The BBC’s latest documentary on Rupert Murdoch has left viewers completely ‘mind-boggled’.
The Rise Of The Murdoch Dynasty, formed of three episodes, takes an in-depth look at the mogul’s influence on the media, with tonight’s instalment focusing around the phone-hacking scandal of 2011.
And it was no more fascinating than last week, after providing an inside look at the Milly Dowler case.
The 13-year-old schoolgirl was reported missing back in 2002, and it has since been claimed that at the time of her disappearance, her voicemails had been hacked on behalf of the News of the World.
After the showcasing footage from the time of the allegations, viewers of the new docu-series took to Twitter where they praised the broadcasting giant for putting on a ‘Netflix-esque expose.’
‘#TheRiseOfTheMurdochDynasty is bloody brilliant tv! Fascinating stuff…’ one wrote while another said: ‘It’s an absolute must-watch. The influence and power that Murdoch has is mind boggling.’
Someone else added: ‘Hi, this will be my weekly tweet to say how good this doc is.’
And it seems many others felt the same: ‘I have to say, fair play to the BBC for airing this. It’s more the type of expose you’d get on Netflix.’
Next week is set to take a look at what has become of the Murdoch family in more recent years, teasing extracts of Donald Trump’s speeches and interviews from the likes of Brexiteer Nigel Farage.
Last week, eagle-eyed viewers were left all emotional when they spotted Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper dancing in the background at Tony Blair’s 1997 election victory celebration.
The political advisor, who is currently battling coronavirus in hospital, was seen boogieing away next to Labour grandees including Neil Kinnock, John Prescott and Peter Mandelson
His wife, while presenting today’s Good Morning Britain, gave an update on Derek’s health, where she explained: ‘He is stable and actually yesterday, I spoke to the nurses and they said they had put Good Morning Britain on, and they felt that because his eyes were open, he looked focused.
‘He engaged on it. We don’t know if it’s the movement of the light or familiar voice so, good morning, Derek.’
The Rise Of The Murdoch Dynasty continues tonight at on BBC Two.
