Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” To Hit Cannes

Warner Bros. Pictures

Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” a biopic of rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley, will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Austin Butler stars as Elvis alongside Tom Hanks as his all-controlling manager Col. Tom Parker with the movie set to explore the complicated professional and personal relationship between them. Olivia DeJonge and Natasha Bassett co-star.

Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge” and “The Great Gatsby” both previously opened the festival whereas “Elvis” won’t because of a new rule that requires every opening night movie to be released on the same day in French theaters.

Instead, it will play later during the fest which runs from May 17th-28th, a full four weeks before “Elvis” hits cinemas around the world on June 24th.
