With no real major theatrical releases to take it on, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” held the top spot at the box-office in its third weekend with a further $36 million haul domestically and $49 million overseas.
That brings its total to $300 million domestically and $298 million overseas. Domestically it was down 45% in its third weekend, though the rate may drop off next week with Paramount’s Sandra Bullock-Channing Tatum action-adventure “The Lost City” offering competition.
The big story of the weekend though was Crunchyroll’s Japanese anime title “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” which debuted to a better-than-expected $17.7 million haul and second-place start. In addition, the film scored very strong reviews with a 74/100 on Metacritic and a 100% (8.2/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Uncharted” slotted in third for its fifth weekend with $8 million domestically and a further $19 million overseas and now sits at $337 million globally – the title holding remarkably well and remains the second biggest grosser of 2022.
Ti West’s well-reviewed horror film “X” came in fourth with $4.4 million, while “Dog” was in fifth with $4.1 million and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was sixth with $3.6 million. The Dylan O’Brien-led thriller “The Oufit” debuted in ninth with $1.5 million.
