“Batman Beyond” Revival Needs Fan Help

Max McMillian, a voice and casting director on the classic animated series “Batman Beyond,” appeared as a part of IGN Fan Fest this weekend and indicates it would take a fan campaign for Warner Bros. to resurrect the popular animated series.

The series ran from 1999-2001 and consisted of 52 episodes across three seasons. In the years since it left the air, the show has developed a rather large cult following and is held in as high esteem as the DC animated universe’s three other early shows – “Batman: The Animated Series,” “Superman: The Animated Series” and “Justice League/Justice League Unlimited”.

The event this weekend saw table read with members of the cast and McMillian was asked about the possibility of the series getting a new season or a feature-length continuation. McMillian says he and the voice cast would all be up for bringing it back, but the decision is in the hands of Warners who will need some convincing:

“It will depend on the fans asking, and asking, and asking for it until [show owner] Warner Bros. would be foolish not to. So they have to begin a campaign of sorts and just let Warner Bros. know that that’s what they want. Because we would like to make it, it would be great fun – we’re all still around, we’re all still available, everybody’s still doing beautiful work. So yes please, and thank you.”

“Batman Beyond” is set decades in the future with Kevin Conroy returning as the voice of an elderly Bruce Wayne, training teenage vigilante Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle) to don the Batsuit as the city’s new Dark Knight. The show featured a blend of new supervillains along with some familiar faces from the past.

Fans have long called for a live-action film, at one point a popular casting combination was Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne and Dylan O’Brien as Terry McGinnis. Warners has never given any indication of pursuing such a project.
