Barnes names two ‘perfect additions’ for Liverpool this summer

Liverpool legend John Barnes has called for his former club to sign Yves Bissouma and Ousmane Dembele this summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with Bissouma of late. The 24-year-old has shone for Brighton since he joined them in 2018.

Bissouma’s form for the Seagulls has led to him being linked with the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal.

Dembele is another player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

The winger made his debut in senior football with French side Rennes. He played 29 times for them before he joined Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

Dembele got ten goals and 21 assists for Dortmund in his only season in Germany. This form tempted Barcelona to splash out €105m plus add-ons to sign the attacker.

The Frenchman has struggled to live up to expectations in Spain so far. But he has still managed to grab 30 goals and 21 assists for them from 118 outings.

Barnes has told Betting Odds that Bissouma and Dembele would be “perfect” for Liverpool:

“I think Yves Bissouma would be the perfect fit for Liverpool. In terms of what Liverpool want from their midfielders, Bissouma is very strong and he’s very good on the ball.

“He’s more of a defensively minded midfielder, but if you look at the way Liverpool’s front three play, then you don’t necessarily need an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, because if Liverpool had that then Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane wouldn’t have the opportunity to score as many goals and it would affect the way they play.

“That’s why I believe that Bissouma would suit Liverpool and that front three perfectly. He would also be a shield in front of the back four and for me, he and Ousmane Dembele would be the perfect additions for Liverpool next season.”

Last month, Ian Wright suggested that Bissouma would be a better fit at Man United over Liverpool:

“Bissouma at Man Utd… that fits. He’s very good.

“You look at Bissouma, and he’s looking at Liverpool, we know that Liverpool have had their problems this season and you’ve got to choose between Liverpool and Man Utd in the current climate.

“I’m probably going to go with United.
