Bale has no option to stay at Tottenham says agent

Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has confirmed that Tottenham don’t have an option to re-sign him for a second season amid speculation around the Welshman’s future.

Bale spent last season on loan at Tottenham from Real Madrid and made 34 appearances for the north London side scoring 16 goals and registering 3 assists.

There has been a myriad of rumours concerning the attackers future, but the option of another year extension at Spurs has been ruled out by Bale’s agent.

Barnett spoke to the Evening Standard about his client’s future denying the possibility of a permanent and loan option in his Tottenham contract.

He said: “As I have said from the beginning, there is no option. Gareth has no agreements whatsoever. He is under contract to Real.”

Bale walked out of a post-match interview when questioned on his future following Wales’ disappointing exit from Euro 2020.

The Dragons crashed out of the competition after losing 4-0 to Denmark in the last 16 despite an impressive display in the group stages.

Bale had fallen out of favour with former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, but the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti could open to door to a spectacular return to the Bernabeu.

The Wales captain spoke about Ancelotti’s appointment before the Euros and said he was planning talks with the new boss regarding his future in Madrid.

He said: “I know Carlo Ancelotti is a great manager. I get on with him really well, we had some great times in the past.

“As soon as the Euros finishes I’m sure I’ll have a conversation and then I’ll go from there.”

“I’m not thinking about anything until after the Euros,” Bale added. “I haven’t spoken to anybody. I’m not thinking about my future.”

Bale won the Champions League with Ancelotti in 2014 after scoring a dramatic goal in extra-time to help Los Blancos win the trophy.

Ancelotti has spoken about Bale on his return to Madrid and has said he can gave a “great season” if he is motivated to play for the La Liga giants.

He said: “Gareth hasn’t played much in the Premier League, but he did score goals, he was effective in the final games of the season when he played consistently.

“He is coming back, I know him well. If he is motivated to play, he can have a great season. I have no doubt.”
