Aston Villa could make a big money move for David Brooks this year, according to reports.

The Wales international was linked with Man Utd in the summer as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.

They failed to sign him, although he could still make a return to the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT, Villa are considering a major bid for the Bournemouth star.

Speaking earlier today, transfer journalist Alex Crook said: “One player they are keen on is David Brooks at Bournemouth. It would take a big bid to persuade the Cherries to sell him. He’s a big part of their own bid to get back in the Premier League.

“I can see why Dean Smith and Villa are looking at him. They’ve done really well recruiting from the EFL with the likes of Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins this season.

“Brooks is a good age, he’s injury free now after missing most of last season. He’s someone that has proved already that he can score goals and assist in the Premier League.”

Brooks rarely featured in the top flight last season after undergoing ankle surgery. This term, he’s made up for his previous absence by scoring three goals and assisting five more in 17 league matches.

Villa would need a large sum to prize one of Bournemouth’s prized assets to the West Midlands.

When Man Utd were linked with the winger, reports emerged stating it would cost £40 million to sign him.

Sheff Utd have also been backed to re-sign Brooks should he leave the south coast.

They sold him for £11.5 million in July 2018 as the player pursued a career in the Prem.

Villa’s next match is against Man City next Wednesday. Their fixture against Everton on Sunday has been postponed as a ‘significant number’ of players are having to self-isolate.
