Arsenal are in the running to sign Georginio Wijnaldum on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Netherlands international joined PSG on a free transfer from Liverpool in the summer but the 31-year-old has struggled to establish himself since moving to the French capital.
Wijnaldum has started just seven of PSG’s 17 games in Ligue 1 this season and has started just half of their matches in the Champions League group stage.
According to Sky Sports, Wijnaldum is ‘open’ to returning to the Premier League on loan but it is ‘unlikely’ that PSG will allow him to leave.
The report claims that Arsenal would be keen on a deal if PSG reconsidered their stance.
Wijnaldum, who won the Premier League and Champions League during his time at Liverpool, signed a three-year contract with PSG in June.
Speaking in October, Wijnaldum admitted he was not happy with his subdued start to life with PSG.
‘I can’t say I’m completely happy, because the situation is not what I wanted,’ the midfielder told NOS.
‘But that’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around.
‘I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit and also did very well. This is something different and that takes getting used to.
‘I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.’
