Apple Acquires Tom Holland-Led “Cherry”

Apple Original Films has acquired worldwide rights to “Avengers: Endgame” directors Anthony and Joe Russo’s gritty new drama “Cherry” starring Tom Holland.

The deal reportedly landed in the high $40 million range and apparently gives Apple an awards season contender with plans to premiere the film in early 2021 on Apple TV+.

The story follows former Army medic Nico Walker who returned from Iraq with extreme un-diagnosed PTSD and fell into opioid addiction and began robbing banks. Walker was caught in 2011 and is scheduled to be released in 2020.

Ciara Bravo, Bill Skarsgard, Jack Reynor, Forrest Goodluck, Jeff Wahlberg, Michael Gandolfini and Kyle Harvey also star. Jessica Goldberg (“The Path”) co-wrote the script with Angela Otstot (“The Shield”).
