The showrunner for Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That… has confirmed that Willie Garson’s death will not be written into the show, explaining that it ‘wasn’t charming’ to do so.

In September this year, it was announced that Garson, who played Stanford opposite Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw in the series, had died at the age of 57 from pancreatic cancer.

Tributes came rushing in for the late actor, with Parker saying that her grief over the loss of her close friend had been ‘unbearable’.

Ahead of the release of And Just Like That…, there has been some speculation as to whether Garson’s death will be featured in the show’s script, as he had been filming the comedy-drama at the time.

In a new interview, Michael Patrick King, who serves as showrunner of the programme and was an executive producer on Sex and the City, outlined why they decided against writing a death for Stanford.

‘Because it wasn’t charming. And I knew that the audience would know,’ he told The New York Times.

King also added that ‘nobody’s dead’ in the story, despite theories that have been swirling concerning a supposed funeral in the narrative.

Earlier this year, reports came out that the show would kill off a main character in the very first episode, leading to rumours that it could be Chris Noth’s Mr Big.

Pictures taken on set over the summer appeared to show a funeral scene being filmed, which therefore seemed to support the theory of someone passing away.

Plus, in the teaser released for the series, there’s a very short clip where Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), her husband Steve (David Eigenberg) and their son Brady (Niall Cunningham) share a tight hug while Miranda and Brady were wearing black, perhaps insinuating they were in mourning.

While Kim Cattrall is not returning as fan-favourite Samantha, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are back as the trio continue to explore the complexities of love and friendship in their 50s.

And Just Like That… arrives on Sky Comedy and NOW on December 9.
