Always Be My Maybe

We’re still living in the midst of Netflix’s rom-com boom, and now a self-proclaimed, one-movie “rom-com explosion” is arriving, courtesy of Ali Wong and Randall Park.
On Tuesday, Wong posted a mini-trailer for Always Be My Maybe — starring and co-written by Wong and Park — on Instagram. (Netflix’s film account tweeted the trailer as well.) She also announced the film’s official release date: May 31.
Always Be My Maybe tells the story of Sasha (Wong) and Marcus (Park), childhood friends who reconnect as adults. In classic rom-com fashion, however, there’s a class disparity to overcome: Sasha is a successful celebrity chef, while Marcus is a struggling musician. Also, by the looks of the trailer, Marcus’s feelings for Sasha aren’t exactly returned at first; she seems much more eager to discuss the “freaky-ass sex” she just had with someone else. Ah, the turmoil of romance.
