Abdul-Mateen II, Jordan To “Destroy People”

Warner Bros. Pictures

Michael B. Jordan (“Black Panther”) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“The Matrix Resurrections”) will team up for the dramatic thriller “I Helped Destroy People” based on a New York Times story about a whistleblower.

“Hand of God” creator Ben Watkins will pen the script which Jordan’s Outlier Society and Abdul-Mateen’s House Eleven10 labels will produce along with Amazon Studios. Abdul-Mateen II will also star in the film.

The article deals with Terry Albury, a highly commended F.B.I. agent tasked with infiltrating Muslim communities post 9/11 as the only Black agent at his bureau.

He grew so disillusioned by the war on terror and what he saw as the agency’s violations of its rules that he began leaking classified documents to the press to expose systemic abuse. A sting operation apprehended him and he landed a four-year term in prison.

Abdul-Mateen II will shortly be seen alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the Michael Bay action movie “Ambulance” next month and recently shot James Wan’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”. Jordan is currently in the midst of starring in and directing “Creed III” for MGM.
