In a surprise announcement, ABC has cancelled its Cobie Smulders-led series “Stumptown” despite the show being renewed for a second season in May and one of the network’s only freshman success stories last season both critically and in digital and delayed viewing.
“Stumptown” was a part of the Fall 2020 ABC schedule announced in June, returning to the Wednesday 10pm slot. Timing issues related to the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for the show to be ready for a Fall launch and so the network has now opted to not move forward with the previously commissioned new season
ABC Signature, which produces the show, are reportedly planning to shop it and find a new home for it. The series shoots in Los Angeles and had not started production when the call not to go foward was made. Cast and the crew have only just been notified.
Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez, with Camryn Manheim and Michael Ealy co-star in the series.
