Could a third film in the “Ace Ventura” comedy franchise be in the works?
The team at Morgan Creek Productions recently spoke with Park Circus for a feature piece on the company’s library of titles over the years which includes everything from “Major League” and “Dead Ringers” to “Young Guns” and “The Last of the Mohicans”.
During the talk the question came up about what’s next for the company where they discussed more life for the Jim Carrey-led comedy franchise following the two 1990s films:
“We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with ‘Exorcist’ and the ‘Ace Ventura’ franchise – its noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a third installment… During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories.
Here’s where things get tricky. On the original site that is where the quote ends, but it appears that the article may have been edited as Collider has a copy of the quote which is the same but with one key addition at the end: “Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.”
Carrey scored raves for returning to his old “Ace Ventura”-style comedy ways in “Sonic the Hedgehog” so it makes sense writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller would be a good fit for a potential third film.
However, there has been no indication Carrey is involved in another “Ace Ventura” at this point and Morgan Creek is so far staying visibly silent on its social media channels about the project even as news of the quote has spread.
