Emile Heskey says Arsenal are in ‘desperate need’ of creativity and believes Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai would be a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Gunners have picked up just one win in their last six league games and are languishing in 14th place in the table.
Their primary struggle has been a lack of creativity in their midfield, which Arteta remains keen on addressing in the transfer market.
Arsenal are one of many top European clubs interested in Szoboszlai, who has a release clause of just £23million.
And Heskey believes the 20-year-old would be a ‘key component’ for the Gunners, especially given that their most natural creator Mesut Ozil has been frozen out at the Emirates.
‘Arsenal are in desperate need,’ the former Liverpool and Leicester City striker told HITC.
‘Their talisman is not even making the bench, not even making the squad.
‘Having lost their last game against Wolves, they need that person who can unlock games and can start winning games for Arsenal.
‘[Szoboszlai] would be a really, really key component.’
Reports claim that the Gunners have concerns over Szoboszlai’s ball retention and defensive abilities, but Heskey feels those areas can be easily addressed in training.
‘[A lack of defending] is something he can work on,’ Heskey added. ‘A lot of the time, defending is your reaction, when you give the ball away or when there’s a turnover, what’s your reaction then? There’s got to be a positive reaction to win it back.
‘[At 20 years old] there’s plenty of time!’
