That leaves Arsenal, who also lost to a German side in their last group match, as the only English side remaining in the competition.
The Gunners went down 4-1 at Hoffenheim on Wednesday but hung on to second place in Group C.

Group A
Wolfsburg and Juventus both won 4-0 in their final group matches to claim the last two remaining places in the quarter-finals.
They finished level on points with Chelsea in Group A, so the group was decided by the head-to-head results between the trio.
All three teams had won the same number of points in the matches among themselves – one win, two draws and one defeat.
But Emma Hayes’ side missed out as the other two had a better goal difference from those games.
Group B
Paris St-Germain finished the group stage with six wins out of six after they thrashed Icelandic side Breidablik 6-0, having scored 25 goals without reply in their matches.
Champions League debutants Real Madrid, who had already claimed second spot, saw off Ukrainian team Kharkiv 3-0 in their final group match.
Group C
Defending champions Barcelona finished the group stage with a perfect record after a 5-0 win over Danish side HB Koge.
Second-placed Arsenal scraped through after losing their final match 4-1 at Hoffenheim – the German side fell just short of getting the five-goal victory they needed to leapfrog the Gunners.
Group D
Seven-time winners Lyon claimed top spot ahead of Bayern Munich after thrashing bottom side Hacken 4-0 in their final group match.
They had already qualified along with the German champions, who finished the group stage with a 4-0 victory over Benfica.
