The CW will expand upon its Jared Padalecki-led “Walker” series with a prequel spin-off titled “Independence” which CBS Studios is backing.
The new series will be set in the late 1800s and follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West.
On her quest for revenge, she crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Their journey takes them to the town of Independence, Texas where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams.
Star/executive producer Padalecki, creator/executive producer/showrunner Anna Fricke and executive producers Seamus Fahey, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore are all onboard the new series penned by Fahey from a story by him and Fricke.
“Walker” was an instant breakout when it debuted in early 2021, quickly establishing itself as The CW’s most-watched series.
