He made it to the quarter final of Strictly Come Dancing 2021, however, Dan Walker has revealed he didn’t even dance at his own wedding.

The BBC Breakfast host, 44, has plans to dance with his wife at their 25th wedding anniversary to ‘make up’ for his lack of dancing on their big day.

Dan has so far enjoyed 10 weeks of learning to dance everything from the Charleston to the rumba with his partner Nadiya Bychkova, but recently commented that he does not know ‘who is voting for us.’

‘I didn’t even dance at my own wedding. I do distraction tactics, I do messing around on the sides,’ he said.

‘We’ve been married 20-odd years now and it has always been our plan to have a party for our 25th anniversary, I would love to do a dance and for her to learn a dance, and for us to do it together and make up for my lack of wedding-day dancing.’

Dan continues to say he ‘loves the idea of dancing,’ but just always felt it was ‘beyond’ him.

‘I’m six foot six, I was always tall and awkward, it was just easier to avoid it and be the joker on the sideline instead.

‘I would watch Strictly and think that looks absolutely amazing, I wish I could do that, I wish I could move like that. There’s always been that sort of desire to do it but I just felt I had no ability to do it.’

The TV star joked about his and Nadiya’s ‘faces of surprise’ each week when Tess calls their name to go through, saying ‘that’s half the fun.’

Dan said his daughter even cried during the first live show before asking him not to be voted out first, and his wife asked him a week before the competition started: ‘Can you actually dance?’

His loved ones are now ‘really enjoying it’ and he says the whole Strictly journey is ‘just a really nice family experience.’

Dan has been an avid Strictly viewer for years, saying he loves watching the ‘brilliant dancers with natural quality,’ but also ‘the numptys like me who have no idea whether they could do anything or learn an entirely new skill.’

‘If you asked me to dance 12 weeks ago I would have sat down and run away, but it’s very different now.’

Dan and Nadiya scored 31 last week, and performed a tango this weekend to Santa Maria by Gotan Project.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Results air on BBC One tonight at 7:20pm.
