Manchester United will pay an initial £12.8million to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, with the payment spread over the next five years.

The 36-year-old’s return to Old Trafford is expected to be confirmed today and the Portugal captain is likely to sign a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Ronaldo had a year to run on his deal in Turin and Juventus had simply been keen to get a fee for the former Real Madrid star, who they signed for £99m in 2018.

And the Old Lady confirmed today that United will pay at least £12.8m to sign Ronaldo, with a further £6.8m based on the forward’s success at Old Trafford.

‘Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement with Manchester United FC for the definitive disposal of the registration rights of the player Cristiano Ronaldo has been reached for a consideration of 15million euros payable in five financial years, which might be increased, up to a maximum of 8m euros, upon achievement of specific performance objectives over the duration of the employment contract with the player,’ a statement read.’

Daniel James is set to join Leeds United before the transfer window closes, with the Red Devils hoping to make a profit of around £14m on the Wales winger.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were close to signing James in 2019 but a move to Elland Road broke down in January and he moved to Old Trafford that summer for around £16m.

The Yorkshire club are now set to pay an initial £25m for James, with the deal likely to rise to £30m.
