After receiving more than 100 reports of injuries related to handheld clothing steamers, HSN (formerly the Home Shopping Network) is recalling 5.4 million of the electric devices.

The nationwide recall specifically affects Joy/JM-branded My Little Steamer and My Little Steamer Go Mini models of handheld clothing steamers, according to an alert from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. They were sold online and through the HSN television network, and they were also available at retailers including Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon, Lowes, and Walmart. The steamers came in a variety of colors (including red, white, black, teal, and purple) and were sold individually as well as in combination sets.

In order to remove wrinkles from clothes, these devices dispense hot steam through a small nozzle. But to date, HSN has received 227 reports of the steamers spraying or leaking hot water, including 106 cases of burn injuries. Of those injuries, eight involved second-degree burns and six involved third-degree burns. Using the recalled steamers “poses a serious burn hazard to consumers,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says.

Anyone who may have purchased one of the handheld steamers included in this recall, which were sold from January 2002 through December 2020, can contact HSN to see if their device qualifies for a refund. The company is issuing full refunds for steamers purchased between January 2018 and December 2020, partial refunds for those bought between January 2015 through December 2017, and vouchers for those purchased before 2015. The steamers were sold for $10 to $30 individually or $20 to $50 in combination sets.

And if you’ve had an issue with your steamer or an injury related to using one of the recalled devices, you can file a report with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
