There is an ongoing rumor that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan will play Luke Skywalker in some future TV or film project for Star Wars. Now, the actor himself has responded to this ongoing speculation in an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Stan told the hosts that that it’s all a rumor for now, until the original Luke Skywalker actor–Mark Hamill–calls him to tell him otherwise.
“If calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me then I’ll believe it. Until then, I won’t believe it,” he said.
Many people online have pointed out that Stan and Hamill look similar, which has led to these rumors enduring and growing. Back in 2017, Hamill joked about this in a tweet which you can see below. In 2018, Hamill said Stan doesn’t need his approval to play Luke someday.
Sebastian doesn’t need my stamp of approval! He’s a wonderful actor & is never less than great in everything he does. #HamTheStanFan

For what it’s worth, there have been no reports or news about a new Star Wars project featuring Luke Skywalker again, so this is all only speculation right now. That being said, Luke Skywalker is one of the most famous and recognizable characters in the Star Wars universe, so it would be shocking if the character never came back.
For now, you can watch Stan on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is streaming now on Disney+.
