“The Wire” creator David Simon and writer/producer George Pelecanos will re-team with HBO on yet another Baltimore crime drama – this one titled “We Own The City”.
The pair will write and executive produce the limited series based on the true story of the infamous Baltimore Gun Trace Task Force and journalist Justin Fenton’s book about the case.
The nine-member task force was set up at the Baltimore Police Department in an effort to get weapons and violent criminals off of the streets.
But in 2017, the officers involved were arrested and eventually convicted or pleaded guilty to crimes related to illegal searches and the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, jewellery, and drugs among other offenses.
Simon and Pelecanos also worked with HBO together on “Treme” and “The Deuce”. Simon also worked on “The Corner,” “Show Me a Hero” and “The Plot Against America” for the network, while Pelecanos also wrote for “The Pacific”.
